The Stillroom was founded over ten years ago by an ex-schoolteacher seeking an alternative to toxic mothballs for the storage of her baby’s clothes. She returned to the wisdom of her grandmothers and in her kitchen created the clothing protector. Essential oils renowned for their insect repelling properties were mixed with natural, botanical fixatives and bound in a wax medium. The resulting "wax" block was placed in a cloth bag and stored amongst clothes and linen, slowly releasing the essential oils to protect and perfume.
The clothing protector quickly became popular amongst family and friends and this led to the commercial development of the product. Over time, the clothing protector has revealed itself as a versatile product with many uses in the home. It can be stored amongst clothes, linen, books and in the pantry. It has generated a strong product and brand loyalty through its pleasant aroma, attractive packaging, reasonable price and longevity. The perfume will last for approximately three years and can be easily refreshed by scratching the surface to release more oils.
Ever mindful of the need to protect the environment and recycle where possible, the company found a new life for the "offcuts" of the clothing protector manufacturing process as the filling for the shoe freshener. The essential oils do a wonderful job of absorbing odours and ensuring pleasantly scented shoes and shoe storage areas. Florals or checks as the packaging choices, and appropriately matched perfumes, provide options for both men and women. Back to Products. |
